Dear Parents and Carers

So much has happened in the last couple of weeks and as always, I am delighted by the way the children relish their experiences and use them to build their skills, knowledge and understanding - they are a real credit to you!

We were delighted to welcome Tom from the Parliament Outreach team to speak to KS2 as a follow-up to our trip to London earlier in the year.  It was a great way to remind the children how democracy works in the 'grown-up' world and gave them an opportunity to discuss their own experiences and opinions.

Fox class were also treated to a wonderful afternoon at the Heritage Centre in the church where they found out all sorts of things about the history of Bampton as well as taking part in a 'treasure' hunt in the church.  Stagg and Squirrel will be visiting later in the term.

World Book Day was wonderful with some amazingly creative costumes.  We were not able to give a 'best-recycled costume' prize this year because they were all so brilliant!  Next year, we will be sending out a request at the beginning of the term for WBD costumes to be recycled to other children.  Hopefully this will reduce cost as parents won't feel the need to buy new costumes, and will ensure that homemade costumes as well as bought costumes find a new home when children have grown over the year.

We are excited to be starting Djembe drumming workshops in school shortly, with the Devon Drum School, and I am looking forward to a number of children taking up the offer of private drumming lessons in school as well.

We have spoken to the children to explain that if they cycle or scoot from school at the end of the day,  they must first walk down the hill rather than race!  It is not safe to speed down the footpath as other children and parents may be walking up or down and at best might be frightened.  The driveway is also not safe as the buses and taxi, delivery drivers, visitors etc all use this and won't be expecting children in the way.  Please could you speak to your children about the reasoning around this and support them to walk down the hill before they begin cycling/scooting.

Next week we are excited to welcome new and existing parents to our Open Afternoon on 15th March from 2.00 - 3.30pm to share the children's learning, look at the wonderful art work that has been created across the school and listen to our musical performers. Please do bring along any potential families that might be thinking of Bampton Primary for their children.

We are also looking forward to this term's Parent Power day on Saturday 16th March from 9.30 to 12.30.  Refreshments kindly provided by the PTFA.  Please can you let the office know if you will be able to attend so we can cater for you! Jobs will include gardening, deconstructing, digging out and debrambling.  This is such a wonderful community event and all are welcome!

Here are this week’s Times Table Rockstars, Superstars! We would like everyone to celebrate our top scorers and those who have made amazing efforts. All staff have been so impressed with children’s enthusiasm and determination to improve their times tables knowledge. If your child’s name is mentioned in the newsletter, then there is a 3 house point reward! Your child has a Times Table Rockstar login, which can be used at home too.

Fieldmice and Hedgehog Class:

We have enjoyed learning about animals and habitats under the sea and challenged ourselves to learn new vocabulary.  We have continued to print using a marbling technique, this time using shaving foam and food colouring!  In PE we have been learning dance and we all enjoyed world book day.

 

Squirrel Class:

have all been critical thinkers this week in so many ways! We have been proud of all of them for showing reliance throughout assessment week, really focussing on their listening and understanding skills. In Science we have been using our observation skills to draw cut up fruit and vegetables. We have these on the windowsill in our classroom and over the next week will be recording our observations as we observe their decay. On World Book Day we represented a huge selection of characters and had fun spending the morning finding out more about Peru after reading Paddington. We also wrote instructions on how to make a marmalade sandwich for Paddington which we are looking forward to sharing with

 

Fox Class:

have demonstrated the Character virtues of creativity. For our Design and Technology topic, The Great Bread Bake Off, the class have been focusing on tasting different breads and then creating their own. The corridors smelt fantastic with freshly cooked bread, which the children thoroughly enjoyed eating! I was very impressed with the adverts that the children created on their paper bags, which they took their bread home in. Well done, Fox class!

 

Stag Class:

have demonstrated the Character virtues of critical thinking and confidence in their assessments over the last fortnight. I am so proud of the children for giving their absolute best, especially when I know some of them were feeling a little worried. They should all be really proud of what they’ve achieved. We have also shown amazing creativity with the incredible World Book Day costumes on Thursday! It is always a joy to be able to spend extra time talking about books, and I hope that sharing characters and stories has inspired the children to go off and try new books and authors!

Hedgehog

Isla

For showing the character virtues of citizenship and motivation.  Isla is a model student, always following instructions and helping to keep the class tidy.  She has also made huge progress with her writing and maths and we are all very proud of her.  Well done Isla!

Jesse

For showing the character virtues of citizenship and motivation.  Jesse has made amazing progress in reading and writing.  In his latest reading assessment he came out as nearly Y1 level!  Well done Jesse, keep it up!

Squirrels

Victoria 

For showing the character virtues of confidence and motivation in handwriting.  Victoria takes great pride in her letter formation and really enjoys showing adults in the classroom her handwriting. When looking back through Victoria’s books we were amazed at the great progress she has made this year which deserves celebrating.

 

Violet 

For showing the character virtues of motivation and resilience. Violet works hard all the time in and out of school and has made significant progress in her reading, writing and maths. She demonstrated this in her assessments this week and her instructional writing. Her written work is on display to motivate all outside our classroom as our class writer of the week.

Foxes

Maggie

Maggie has demonstrated the character virtues of curiosity and determination. She shows great determination in every lesson and will not give up until she fully understands a concept. Maggie shows great curiosity in her learning and asks amazing questions! Well done!  

Charlie

Charlie has demonstrated the character virtues of determination and motivation. He is very keen to understand all aspects of learning. Charlie asks great questions and provides thoughtful ideas in discussions. He wants to be the best learner that he can be, and is a pleasure to have in class.

Stags

Bobby

For showing the character virtue of motivation in his classwork. Bobby has gone from being quiet in class, to being super keen to share his ideas and answer questions. It is lovely to see him so engaged, and I am really proud of his attitude to learning. Well done Bobby!

 

John

For showing the character virtue of determination in his assessments over the last fortnight. John has made huge strides forward from the autumn term, and should be really proud of his progress. His self-motivation and positive approach to his schoolwork is commendable. Well done John!

Well done Everybody

 

The PTFA is made up of parents, carers, teachers, and friends of Bampton School with a shared interest in raising funds for equipment, resources, and activities to enhance the children’s learning experience.

We meet monthly to discuss how we as a school community can develop and improve school facilities and students’ opportunities, through planning fundraising events such as Bingo events, the Christmas Community Evening, Easter Extravaganza etc.

We welcome new and old members and are hoping for more support in the coming months.
